This excellent, small hotel is located on the eastern side of Route 7, one mile south-southeast of downtown Middlebury. Telephone number 802-388-7600. Five rounds, time control “Game in 45” (forty-five minutes per player) In two sections: NOVICE for players of average or below-average playing strength. Players who are rated above 1399 (USCF, CFC, or FQE) or 1499 (Vermont) should not enter this section. ADVANCED for players of average or above-average playing strength. Not open to players who are rated above 2099 (USCF, CFC or FQE) or above 2199 (Vermont). Prizes: Trophies and chess merchandise in Novice section, cash in Advanced section; total value equal to 100% of total entry fees. Starting times of the five rounds: 9:30, 11:30, 1:30, 4:00, 6:00. Any player may skip any round, if proper notice is given to the tournament director. Most players will receive half a point for an unplayed round. There are no membership requirements. Game results will be rated only for the Vermont rating system, which is very similar to the USCF rating system, except that the average rating is higher.
