SPECIAL ENTRY FEES: Titled Masters of any kind- FREE ENTRY (Advanced entry fee deducted from PRIZE WINNINGS) New and unrated players, $15 postmarked by April 20th. New and unrated players must play in U1400 Section and are ineligible for prizes.

Directions: Mass Pike (Route 90) West to Exit 4 (West Springfield) onto Route 91 North to Exit 19 (Northampton/Amherst) - Right onto Route 9 and go approximately 4.5 miles to Route 116 North (left turn at the lights), then 1 mile to UMass Exit - Right at the end of the ramp onto Massachusetts Avenue. At the second set of lights turn left onto Commonwealth Avenue. Boyden Gymnasium is on the corner of Commonwealth & Massachusetts Avenues. Continue straight through two sets of lights on this road, you will pass the Mullins Center on your left. Follow the road as it curves to the right and look for a parking lot on your left, this lot is open and you can park without a permit on the weekends. From this parking lot cross the street and follow the signs towards the Student Union, near the library.

John Curdo did it again, tieing for first in yet another of his 800+ tournament wins! This time he finished tied with CT Expert Doug Fiske, who knocked off another FIDE Master, UMass grad student Johann Haker in round one!
In the U/1800 section, Northampton's Ron Gist scored his second consecutive 3-0 perfect sweep to take home first place money. Rich Zyra tied with rapidly improving newcomer Jonathan Ingellis for second place, each with 2.5-.5 scores. The event drew 24 players (in what was one of the busiest tournament days of the year in New England!) and was directed by Ed Kostreba for the sponsoring Western Massachusetts Chess Association.
